Medicare Coverage of Durable Medical Equipment and Other Devices

This booklet provides information on Medicare coverage for durable medical equipment, prosthetic equipment, orthotic items, and prostheses as well as what individuals might need to pay if Medicare does not cover the total cost.

Durable medical equipment includes home oxygen equipment, hospital beds, walkers, and wheelchairs.

Prosthetic equipment includes cardiac pacemakers, enteral nutrition pumps, and prosthetic lenses.

Orthotic items include leg, neck, and back braces.

Prostheses include artificial legs, arms, and eyes.
